This event is designed to be informative and fun. You can choose to participate in a number of workshops from digital photo editing workshop, video production design, setup a Voice over IP network connection and/or manage and secure your wireless networks. Exhibition and panel discussion with refreshments, Organised by University of Wollongong - Faculty of Informatics. FREE
The Faculty of Informatics at the University of Wollongong is holding an information evening for current and prospective UOW students and their parents. The main event of the evening will be a panel discussion on the theme of the event which is ICT and GFC - Threat or Opportunity? Panel members will consist of ICT industry representatives, the Dean of the Faculty of Informatics, a current UOW student and a graduate. A Q&A forum will be also be held. There will be an exhibition with stands with industry representatives, local employers and service providers, UOW student projects and Information about the Faculty of Informatics and its four Schools. Local ICT companies will showcase their business and the careers they offer to ICT graduates and will also provide advice to students considering studying and working in the ICT industry and related fields. The event is a great opportunity to meet with ICT professionals, employers, past and current UOW students. The extensive and rewarding study and career opportunities currently available in ICT will be highlighted.

Data Warehouse Strategic Framework; Systems Strategy, Data and Technical Architecture, and Roadmap

Information and Communication Technologies for Social Inclusion and Wellbeing - FREE, Organised by The University of Melbourne, Department of Information Systems
Recent developments in mobile technologies, broadband infrastructures and attitudes to information, do not only change the way we connect to others, but can also contribute to our wellbeing. This presentation explores the positive design of emerging technologies to exploit human capabilities and strengths, especially in older Australians, to contribute to social inclusion and wellbeing. Presented by Dr. Frank Vetere. Dr Vetere is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Information Systems at the University of Melbourne and leads the Interaction Design Group. His research interests are in human-computer interaction and computer-mediated human interactions. He has specific interest in participatory design approaches and use-centred processes that contribute to the design of useful, usable and satisfying technology.

The Mackay IT Network, in partnership with CQUniversity, is hosting an ICT Careers “Mini-Expo” at CQU’s Mackay campus. This will be an opportunity for students, teachers and parents to obtain information about careers in ICT “straight from the horse’s mouth”. Professionals from various ICT-related backgrounds will be on hand to talk about the diverse range of career paths and opportunities available in the industry. Companies represented will include Mackay Regional Council; Telstra Country Wide; Mining Logic Solutions; Mackay Sugar; and smaller local businesses such as TyeWare, iScape and PCTechs. Robotics Workshop for School Teachers, Organised by Griffith University School of Information & Communication Technology
This workshop was designed to provide interested students, school teachers, both beginners and experts in robotics, with practical skills as well as a broad understanding of the general, but essential, technologies. The microcontroller and the robot set chosen for the exercises allows teachers to see, understand and manipulate the very basic level of components. They will connect various sensors and actuators to the control section without needing soldering. Some essential knowledge in related areas such as electricity and electronics will be introduced with comprehensive examples. Teachers will also learn how to program and operate robots using a programming language. ACS Foundation @ Internship Fair

Girls' Programming Network @ University of Sydney School of Information Technologies

Want to learn how computers really work? Want to writ programs that do what you want? Want to improve your programming skills for SDD Want to meet other girls who have an interest in IT? Then join the University of Sydney, Girls' Programming Network! For academically gifted female students in years 9-12, with or without programming experience.
Program runs for one full day 10:00am - 4:00pm(21/7), and five fortnight afternoon meetings 4:30-6:30pm (28/7, 11/8, 25/8, 8/9, 22/9).

ICT Industry Visits for Teachers and Careers Practitioners

The Victorian Information Technology Teachers Assocation (VITTA) is pleased to announce that it will be running an ICT Industry bus tour during ICT Week for teachers and careers practitioners. This excursion will be a full day event, and will commence at the VIITA Offices in Collingwood at 9am. The bus will visit four distinctly different organisations working withing the ICT industry and will include hands on activities and one-on-one interactions with ICT industry professionals. The day will not only be a fun introduction to possibilites in the ICT industry, but also a great way to network with colleagues and industry. UTS:IT School Visit Program 2009

UTS:IT would like to invite high school students to the UTS campus for a half day program. We are also happy to tailor a program for potential BIT Scholarship applicants, Women in IT Program for girls or a program for Indigenous students, if there is sufficient interest. The program will consist of: Courses and Careers Talk - including a current student and/or recent graduate speakers; Hands-on IT Workshop with three options available- networking, web development or web design/usability; Faculty Tour.
